A Country Music Camping Adventure Exploring the Evolution of Country Music
The Choose Joy Foundation is delighted to announce their upcoming Country Music Festival, Chillin in the Sticks, which will be held from October 6th-8th at the FireBase Lloyd in Townsend, DE. This will be a weekend camping event and a fundraising opportunity to help local families displaced by house fires. On our lineup to entertain festival-goers is the talented Jovon Newman, Bryan Scar, the Humming Birds, Eastern Shore, and some up and coming HickHop stars from Alabama that have yet to be announced. Visitors to the festival will have the opportunity to dance the night away to their favorite country tunes, as well as compete in fun and exciting activities, like a mechanical bull, compete in cornhole and hot wing eating contests, and try their luck in carnival games in the Kid Zone with real prizes. In addition, there will also be an open air farmers market, food trucks, and VIP bonfires available for chats with the bands. Come and join us for a weekend of music, fun and fundraising as we celebrate country music at Chillin in the Sticks!
After losing her own daughter to a house fire, founder Theresa Morris is twofold in her mission. “Our events are not just a way to fundraise, but also an opportunity for our entire community to find joy together.” Choose Joy has become a rallying cry for rebuilding physical structures and spiritual foundations that sustain our community for the long term. We believe that when each person embraces their own unique purpose, we can all live in a world of joy.
Based in Delaware, the Choose Joy Foundation is a 501c3 that works to assist families for a full year after suffering the tragedy of a house fire. Focusing on those who are at the Chester Crozer Burn Unit, we provide basic needs such as clothing, food and shelter.
Choose Joy funds our work with an innovative program for event staffing. We partner with nonprofits, businesses, civic organizations, and community leaders on events that uplift local talent and positive messages. Many of our volunteers have directly experienced a home fire, now they provide the full on-site personnel for partner events as a way to give back. Our team has helped festivals, concerts, banquets, and family events be true success stories. Our program is a win-win for everyone, as we help our volunteers gain experience and build their resumes, while also providing a reliable and cost-effective staffing solution for our partners. We are proud to be able to offer our services to the community and look forward to continuing to make a positive impact.
“Chillin in the Sticks ” is our very own annual fundraiser just before a critical time of year, for our work. Too often, local charities stop programs in the final weeks of the year. While most of us will experience a happy Winter Holiday season in the comfort of our homes, fire safety during the holidays should be paramount. December is actually the leading month for house fires according to national data, with Christmas showing a 73% increase in home cooking fires over an average day.
Families displaced by fire during the winter Holidays are often left eating from a vending machine. Not our families. We are proud to be a part of the Delaware community and to provide a helping hand to those in need. Our mission is to bring joy to those who have been affected by tragedy, and to help them rebuild their lives. We are dedicated to providing resources, support, and hope to those who have experienced a house fire.In 2022, we made a huge impact in our community. We assisted 163 people who were affected by fires with food, motel rooms, clothing, and furnishings. We also sent over a thousand dollars in gift cards for gas and food to the Crozer Burn Unit. When Kent County Delaware didn't have a Toys for Tots program, we stepped up and made sure that 413 children received gifts for the Holidays. Our team did so much more to uplift our community, but there's too much to list here.
Now, we need as much help as we can get to be prepared for our busiest weeks of the year in 2023. We need volunteers, donations, and support to make sure that we can continue to make a difference in our community. We are committed to helping those in need and we need your help to make sure that we can continue to do so.
Will You Choose Joy and Come Chill in the Sticks with us ?
“Live the Life you love, love the life You love Choose Joy everyday in Every way and Always Drop Beats!”
Live,Love,Life,Choose Joy & Drop Beats!.”

Attention: Foster Care needed for The Humane Society of Harford County
Love Kittens but you're not ready for a long-term commitment? Please consider Fostering!! Please visit the www.wxcyfm.com pet page for contact information and to learn more about fostering opportunities. Last year, HSHC received over 400 kittens that required foster care. This litter season will be just as busy. HSHC has already received dozens of kittens this spring and expects to receive hundreds more as the summer goes on.
“It happens every spring and summer, and the sheer number of incoming animals can be overwhelming,” says Mary Leavens, Executive Director. “We need foster parents to provide love and care until the kittens are old enough to be adopted.” Foster parents provide temporary homes so kittens can grow in loving, nurturing environments until they are 8 weeks of age and will return to the shelter and be adopted into forever homes.
Please call to learn about how you can help homeless animals in Harford County!!

Our President, Mary Sullivan, is an amazing woman that spends her life caring for the well-being of animals in need. She is never afraid to aid in rescue as she is always extending a loving hand to any animal that may need help. Mary instills this in her Rescue group every day. We rescue hundreds of Pit Bulls country-wide to be rehabilitated and to ultimately find their forever homes. We work tirelessly to change the public’s misperception of Pit Bull-type-dogs, and to always convey what a wonderful and loving breed they are. This Rescue’s mission is also about Educating and Advocating for Animals in need. Due to the fact that we are a Foster-based Rescue, we function completely off of donations, as well as our wonderful volunteers that care for & temporarily welcome the dogs and cats into their homes, and prepare them for adoption.
You can see a lot of the wonderful work including ‘Happy Tails’, our Adoptables, and our Calendar of Events here - https://www.facebook.com/pittiesandpurrs

We try to host as many fundraisers as possible because there is always a dire need for food, medicine, toys and of course monetary assistance for our always revolving Veterinary Bills. Our fosters and volunteers work diligently to raise funds for the medical care of the dogs & cats that we pull from local shelters (including Baltimore County, AA County, BARCS), and outlying shelters (in PA, WV, NC). There can be a spay/neuter needed (almost always), and many other medical conditions such as mange, entropion eyelids, Heartworm Treatment, biopsies needed, etc. We mostly handle all the tough medical cases that others are not willing to. Not to mention the monthly & yearly vaccinations and grooming for all animals in our care. Training is also a necessity to set up the future Adoptable for success in life. We treat these animals like family, until we can find the perfect home for them to call their own, forever.
I would like to thank you for your generous donation to our rescue, Pitties & Purrs, the Rescue with a Heart. We will always be determined to save more animals, however, we welcome & are grateful for any & all support from our Communities.

Survivors of Abuse in Recovery, Inc. (SOAR)
SOAR, Inc. is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing mental health services for those who are affected by sexual abuse, regardless of their ability to pay for services.
Incorporated as a 501 (c) (3) organization in 1992, Survivors of Abuse in Recovery, Inc. (SOAR) is a statewide recovery program which provides counseling, referral, and education services to adult, adolescent and child survivors of sexual abuse and assault, their non-offending partners, and non-offending family members. SOAR also provides outreach programs to community organizations and businesses. ~
In addition to the ongoing evaluation of each client by a trained clinician, the effectiveness of SOAR’s treatment program for children and adolescents is measured with the trauma Symptom Checklist for Children (TSCC), which is administered to teens before and after each cycle of the group treatment program they participate in. Children complete the TSCC at the beginning of treatment, after six sessions, and at the end of treatment or after one year, whichever comes sooner. The effectiveness of SOAR’s treatment program for adults is monitored with the Symptom Checklist-90 (SCL-90), a standard questionnaire that measures a client’s self-reported symptoms in nine specific psychological problem areas. Clients complete the SCL-90 four times before, during, and after treatment.~
